The Tiruchirappalli Municipal Corporation comprises of an executive and legislative structure which is further divided into various other departments led by several administrators to extend quality governance.

The legislative body of the Tiruchirappalli Municipal Corporation is comprised of 65 councillors elected from the 65 wards of the Tiruchirappalli district.

The municipality of Tiruchirappalli was formed during the year 1866. Based on the growth, development and demands, the municipality was elevated as Tiruchirappalli City Municipal Corporation in the year 1994. The newly constituted Tiruchirappalli City Municipal Corporation comprised of neighbouring Municipalities, Town Panchayats, Panchayat Villages, Taluks, Blocks, Revenue Divisions and Village Panchayats.

Presently, the Tiruchirappalli City Municipal Corporation addresses a total area of 164.7 sq kilometres constituting four administrative zones viz. K.Abhishekapuram, Ariyamangalam, Golden Rock, Srirangam and 65 wards.

The subdivisions of Tiruchirappalli Municipality has four administrative zones and 65 wards was followed through based on the Tiruchirapalli Municipal Corporation Act 1994. The subdivisions impacted in good governance, better growth and development of Tiruchirappalli. The administration of the Tiruchirappalli City Municipal Corporation Council is attended by Mayor and Councillors (for each ward) elected by people. As a matter of fact, the Mayor calls for Tiruchirappalli City Municipal Corporation Council meet on a monthly basis.
